State Representative Chris Perone To Tour East Norwalk Crumbling Curb Sites With DOT Engineer
Monday, April 10, 2006 State Representative Christopher Perone (D-Norwalk) will walk with a Department of Transportation (DOT) engineer through a section of east Norwalk that is known for its crumbling curb side on Thursday, April 13th at 9:00 a.m. "I've asked DOT to come in and see for themselves the damage caused by weather and snowplow blades over the last several years. It is the DOT's responsibility to maintain this section of roadway and to keep it as safe as possible for pedestrians and motorists," said Rep. Perone. A member of the transportation committee, Rep. Perone also co-sponsored legislation that increases funding for the Town Aid Road (TAR) program by a total of $10 million. "Studies have shown a direct correlation between investments in transportation infrastructure and economic growth and I believe that Norwalk's future depends on a well maintained road system," said Rep. Perone. For many smaller communities the Town Aid Road (TAR) program is one of their few sources of state aid. It provides towns with an essential source of financial support with which to make critically important improvements in the local road network. The program suffered drastic cuts in 2002. Since then the legislature has gradually increased TAR aid. WHAT: REP. PERONE ASSESSES CURB-SIDE SITUATION TIME: 9:00 A.M. WHERE: Entrance to East Norwalk's Train Station Parking Lot (across from Mobil Gas Station) Christopher Perone is serving his first term as State Representative of the 137th Assembly District.
