Representatives Perone, Morris Announce Significant Increase In State Funding To Norwalk School System
State Reps. Chris Perone & Bruce Morris
June 22, 2007

Representative Chris Perone (D-Norwalk) announced today that the city of Norwalk will be receiving close to an additional $1,500,000 in priority school district and ECS funding this year.

"I am very pleased to announce that by negotiating with the Democratic leadership in the House, I can confirm that the city of Norwalk will be moved into a higher tier of educational grant funding," Rep. Perone said. "This agreement represents a pivotal moment in our city's history, as the special needs and help that our schools require are finally being acknowledged."

Following the passing of the required legislation, the city of Norwalk will be on par with fellow Connecticut cities such as Danbury, Waterbury and New Britain in terms of how much grant money the school is eligible for every year.

"In essence, this $1,500,000 increase is not a one-time deal," said Rep. Perone. "By being moved into this higher tier, the city is now eligible for higher level in funding every year."

"I am pleased with the efforts from the party to fight for more educational funding for Norwalk for years to come," Rep. Morris said. "This is an effective way to address the needs of an urban school district that are comparable to those of our state's largest cities."

Rep. Christopher Perone is serving his second term representing the 137th Assembly District of Norwalk. He is Vice Chair of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee, and is a member of the Education and Transportation Committees.
