Special Thanks Councilwoman Phyllis Bolden and Mary Geake
August 20, 2007

Writes Councilwoman Bolden:
"Attached are some photographs of Baker Funeral Services' Annual Back-to-School Family Day and Community Cook-out. I invited the Democrats and they came out in good numbers, among them were: Council President Mike Coffey, Council Majority Leader, Carvin J. Hilliard, Councilwoman Gwen Briggs, Town Clerk, Andy Garfunkel, Mora (Jim Hines campaign person), DTC Chair, Attorney Galen Wells, Stuart Wells, State Rep. 140th, Bruce Morris, Council Candidate Steve Serasis, Human Relations Commissioner & NEON Board Member Daisy M. Franklin, Council Candidate Mike Geake and his wife, Mary Geake, Mayoral Candidate, Walter O. Briggs. Senator Duff couldn't be there because he was celebrating his son's 2nd Birthday with his family. All of these fine dignitaries had the opportunity to speak and address the crowd and it was a wonderful experience and exposure to the people and also an educational/informative moment for the listeners.

Also joining us were Norwalk's Best Fire Inspectors Ken Hall and Danny Stewart. They came with the "Fire Safety House" that simulated a real house or building fire and children of all ages (and some adults too) were able to go through the house and learn safety measures and see what it was like to experience a situation filled with smoke! The Firemen did a splendid job interacting with the children and adults as well. We especially enjoyed "Sparky" the firedog in his little truck that followed people around, talked to them and squirted them with water! The Fire Inspectors stayed the entire duration of the festivities arriving early and the festivities took place 2pm - 6pm! We had great music by DJ Terrible T! and food galore, we had fried fish, grilled chicken, pasta salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, soda, water, chips, hotdogs, cake, cookies and all of the children attending received free school supplies, Jimmy's back-packs, Frisbees, and we gave away free bread to those who needed it and donated the left-over to the Norwalk Emergency Shelter. There was no shortage on food or drink and everyone had a marvelous time."

She adds that:
"The Annual Back-to-School Family Day and Community Cookout is sponsored by Baker & Baker-Isaac Funeral Services which has branches in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford, Connecticut, Councilwoman, Rev. Phyllis Y. Bolden is the Office Manager. The event is moved yearly between the branches. Next year, 2008 is to be in Stamford or Bridgeport depending.

Baker Funeral Services is solely owned by city of Bridgeport Councilman, Andre' F. Baker, Jr., (Ward 137) he is a licensed Funeral Director and is assisted by his sister, licensed Funeral Director, Karen R. Baker."
