Representative Perone To Serve On CT Healthcare Partnership Working Group
State Rep. Chris Perone February 15, 2008 This afternoon House Majority Leader Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) announced the formation of the Connecticut Healthcare Partnership Working Group and unveiled legislation that will cut healthcare costs for municipalities. State Rep. Chris Perone (D-Norwalk) was among a handful of lawmakers that have been named to the group, which also includes other stakeholders, such as small business owners, municipalities, unions and teachers. "People expect government to take an active roll in improving access to affordable health care for its citizens. This working group, which has a goal of passing legislation by the end of this session, underscores the level of commitment by the legislature," Rep. Perone said. "By increasing health care coverage to municipal workers and small businesses, it will lower taxes for residents, and reduce the operating costs borne by small businesses. It is our obligation as lawmakers to do whatever we can to make the goals of this group a reality." "Quality healthcare that costs less, that should be the guiding principle of the Connecticut Healthcare Partnership Working Group," Rep. Donovan said. "This is money municipalities could be using for schools, seniors or property tax relief." The Connecticut Healthcare Partnership was unveiled by Rep. Donovan in November as a means to achieve taxpayer savings through healthcare pooling. Municipal employees, small businesses and non-profits would join the state employee health insurance plan, creating a large pool of insured lives leading to increased bargaining power and lower costs. Since November, Rep. Donovan has traveled around the state talking to groups including, municipal representatives, union members, small business owners, doctors, and elected officials. An event in the city of Norwalk with Rep. Perone is presently being discussed. Rep. Christopher Perone is serving his second term representing the 137th Assembly District of Norwalk. He is Vice Chair of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee, and is a member of the Education and Transportation Committees. ### |
