Norwalk —
State Representative Chris Perone (D-Norwalk) has been appointed by House
Speaker Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) to serve on the
National Conference of State Legislatures' (NCSL) Communications,
Financial Services and Interstate Commerce
Standing Committee for 2009 and 2010.
"I am honored by the appointment, and look forward to bringing my experience and
interest to the discussion," Rep. Perone stated. "Increasing internet access
through broadband and wireless technologies is crucial to making our state more
competitive in the areas of education and business. The internet is moving
towards a more collaborative and social framework and by supporting this shift
through the deployment of high speed internet access, research, academia
and innovation in Connecticut
will truly benefit.
Rep. Perone created the Connecticut Broadband Coordinating Council, which is
currently applying for stimulus dollars in order to complete the mapping of the
state's broadband infrastructure. When completed it will enable the Connecticut
to determine where the need for broadband is the most acute. By improving the
network, the state will be connecting schools, libraries, hospitals while
helping small businesses.
House Speaker Donovan said, "I am confident that Chris will work successfully
with other state leaders to put the best ideas and solutions into practice."
